Jaca
Jaca is a small and pleasant town in northern Spain in the province of Huesca in Aragon. Located at the southern edge of the Pyrenees is the historic city known for its past. From the 11th to the 15th Century AD Jaca was the royal residence of the Kingdom of Aragon. A Romanesque cathedral, which is now regarded as the first and most important cathedral at the Camino de Santiago in Spain, was built in 1063 in Jaca. The strategically important position in the Pyrenees, near to the border with France, the small town later even got an impressive fortress. You see, despite the small size of this city, Jaca has to offer several historically sights.
Because of the location of Jaca in the Pyrenees, some good winter sports facilities are very close. Jaca has even tried several times to become the venue for the the Olympic Winter Games, unfortunately never successfully. But they do have great facilities for winter sports, for example a big ice rink. Taking a Spanish course at a language school here in Jaca is highly recommended in the winter for winter sports enthusiasts, the winter sports areas Astún and Dandanchú are not far away. So if you do like to combine a Spanish course with skiing, Jaca is an ideal place for that. But also for hiking and exploring the beautyful landscape and the nature, the area is ideal as well as for Adventure Sports such as mountain biking, hiking, climbing or canoeing. For students who are looking for a modern city with plenty of nightlife this city may not be suitable.
