Sevilla

Sevilla, on the banks of the Guadalquivir River, is a unique city where the reflection of the purest essence of Andalusia is the protagonist in each of its colorful spots. Sevilla, where there are many Spanish schools, is chosen by students that in combination with learning Spanish want to enjoy this magical city and its customs, its people, gastronomy and festivals. Sevilla is a unique starting point for many one day trips to other cities in Andalusia: Granada, Malaga, Cordoba and Ronda among others.

The Arabs trace their ancestors and the settlement of various civilizations are present in the many monuments that show the city and all of them constitute an important and diverse cultural heritage. In just a few hundred meters you can visit various monuments like the Cathedral, the Giralda, the Patio de los Naranjos and the Chapel Royal. The Cathedral, built on an ancient mosque, is the largest gothic cathedral in the world. Its bell tower, La Giralda, is considered the symbol of the city and from there you can enjoy a wonderful view over Sevilla. Near this monument are the Royal Alcázares, built by the Arabs and used by them as a place of residence. In its beautiful gardens are held in summer many open air concerts.

Along the river Guadalquivir is the Torre del Oro, used in the Middle Ages as a prison, now houses the Naval Museum of Seville. Near the river Guadalquivir are the Barrios de Triana and Santa Cruz, made up of narrow cobbled streets, squares and corners where the scent of flamenco and fiesta is present day and night.

The "Semana Santa" in Seville, popular celebration of Catholic origin, is one of the most famous and visited in Spain and takes place between March and April. After the "Semana Santa" is celebrated the "Feria de Abril" where dancing sevillanas, eating the typical Andalusian dishes, drinking local wines and have fun is the main goal.

Nature lovers will not have to move too much away to tour the beautiful Doñana National Park (81 kms) or the Sierra Morena (40 kms). The nearest beach is Matalascakas (95 kms).
